Pakistan civilians caught up in South Waziristan

Imran Khan of Al Jazeera English reports on the civilian losses resulting from the military operation in South Waziristan. Over 150,000 displaced civilians languish in makeshift camps, awaiting help that is terribly slow to arrive. Others, not being able to leave, suffer a far more deadlier fate.

How far would Pakistan's offensive against Taliban go?

An interesting article by Anatol Lieven in UK's Times Online on the Pakistan offensive against Taliban in Waziristan (http://bit.ly/3XHT9i).

I don't believe that the military will gain the kind of success that it hopes to achieve--not in the short- to medium-term anyways.  For the offensive to be successful, the Pakistani public's opinion need to turn against Taliban and in support of the present government.  Unfortunately, the Kerry-Lugar works against the political apparatus at this time.  If it isn't well managed, the public can prone to tying the offensive with the government's desire to fulfill the conditions of the Kerry-Lugar bill.

And that will be a big victory for Taliban and a huge loss for the people of Pakistan.
